Dentistry in Buffalo, New York

A dentist you don't have to talk yourself into.

We book longer appointments than most practices, put the price in writing before anything starts, and tell you plainly when something can wait.

Taking new patients. Most PPO plans accepted, and we file the claim for you.

Care and fees

What we do, and what it costs

Every price here is what you pay without insurance. If you have a plan, we check it before your visit and tell you the number that is left.

Exam, x-rays and cleaning

A full hour with one hygienist, start to finish. You leave knowing what we found, what needs doing and what can be left alone for now.

$145New patient

Fillings and repairs

Tooth colored and matched to the tooth beside it. Most are finished in the same appointment you came in for.

from $210Per tooth

Crowns, made here

We scan, mill and fit in one sitting, so there is no temporary crown to look after for two weeks and no second day off work.

from $1,250Same day

Whitening

Trays molded from your own teeth, plus the gel to go with them. You do it at home over two weeks, which is gentler on sensitive teeth.

$395Take home

Veneers and smile design

We build the shape first and let you look at it in a mirror. Nothing gets touched until you have seen where it is going.

from $1,150Per tooth

Children, first visits

A ride in the chair, a count of the teeth, a new toothbrush. If they are not ready for more that day, that is a fine outcome.

$85Under twelve

Root canal treatment

Booked as one long appointment rather than three short ones. We will tell you honestly if the tooth is worth saving.

from $980Per tooth

Anything not listed gets quoted in writing before it is booked. We have never sent a patient a bill they had not already seen.

The room

Every chair faces a window

It sounds like a small thing. It is the reason people who have not sat in a dental chair for a decade get through the first appointment. Headphones, a blanket and sunglasses are on the counter, and you are welcome to use all three.

A quiet corner of the practice in morning light, a tall window and a potted tree beside a curved stone wall, the edge of a mint chair at the right
How we work

The plan comes before the drill

Most of what makes a dental visit unpleasant is not the treatment. It is not knowing what is happening, what it will cost, or when it will stop. So we run the practice the other way around.

  • One hour, one clinician

Your hygienist stays with you from the chair to the front desk. Nobody hands you off halfway through, and nobody starts the appointment by reading your chart for the first time.

  • The price is on the paper before you agree to anything

Every plan is printed with a cost against each step. You take it home. If you decide against half of it, that is a normal conversation here.

  • Some things are worth watching, not fixing

A small worn spot does not always need a filling this year. When that is the honest answer we write down what we saw and when to look at it again.

Your first visit

What actually happens, start to finish

Written out because people put off booking when they cannot picture it. Nothing below is a surprise on the day.

  1. The night before, two minutes

The forms come to your phone

No clipboard in a waiting room. There is a box on the form that asks whether the dentist makes you anxious. If you tick it, that goes at the top of your chart and the whole team sees it.

  2. First ten minutes

You sit up and talk first

Chair upright, coat still on. Mara asks what has been bothering you and what you have been putting off. Nothing goes near your mouth until that conversation has finished.

  3. About twenty minutes

The exam, on the screen with you

Photos, a scan and a check of every tooth and your gums. It goes up on the monitor beside you as we work, so you are looking at the same picture we are. Raise a hand at any point and we stop.

  4. Last five minutes

You leave with it written down

Findings in plain words, a plan with prices, and no expectation that you book the work today. If there is time in the appointment and you want it, the cleaning happens on the same visit.

The people here

Four of us, and that is the whole practice

You will see the same faces every time, which means nobody has to be told the same thing twice.

Dr. Mara Ellison, DDS

Lead dentist

Bought the practice in 2019 and spent the first year making it quieter. She does the exams and writes every treatment plan herself.

Dr. Devin Okafor, DDS

Cosmetic and restorative

Crowns, veneers and smile design. He will build the shape and hand you a mirror before he touches a single tooth.

Priya Shah, RDH

Hygienist

Runs the cleanings and will tell you straight whether your gums are improving or you are just brushing harder before appointments.

Noor Haddad

Care coordinator

The voice on the phone. She checks your coverage before you come in, argues with the insurer when she has to, and finds a time that fits your week.

Straight answers

The things people ask on the phone

Asked often enough that it is easier to answer them here than to make you call for them.

I have not been to a dentist in years. Am I going to get a lecture?
No. Almost everyone who says that has the same handful of things going on and we have seen all of them. We start with whatever hurts or worries you and work down the list from there.
What does it cost if I have no insurance at all?
A new patient exam with x-rays and a cleaning is $145. Everything past that is quoted in writing before it goes on the schedule, and the fees above are the fees you pay.
Do you take my plan?
Most PPO plans, yes. Noor checks your coverage before the appointment and tells you what is left to pay. If we are out of network with your insurer you will hear it on the phone, not afterwards.
I am genuinely frightened of the dentist.
Say so when you book. We put you in the first slot of the day when the building is quiet, talk through everything before it happens, and stop the moment you lift a hand. Plenty of our patients started exactly there.
My tooth broke this morning.
Call before three and you will be seen today. After hours the practice line goes to Mara, and she would rather you called than sat up all night with it.

Come in once and see

Book the first visit online, or call and Noor will find you a time. If the whole idea makes you nervous, say so when you book and we will plan around it.
